MMP Film Series: Still Standing

Our Mighty McFilm Series continues on this beautiful day, caught between the "Ides of March" and the "Chug Guiness of March". We're proud to present Still Standing: A Beantown Documentary

It's Kennmore vs Harvard Square in this wicked close look at the down and dirty world of Boston subway performers. Our team of Mighty Documentarians goes underground (literally!) to help you get inside the mind of a true modern day folk hero: the human mannequin.

I've put a wicked lot of time and heart into this film, and I'm glad to finally share it. Watch Still Standing and tell us what you think. Pissah!

The actor who plays Stilly Willy is smoking hot! But that guy who plays Manne-Kenny is a dud.

Okay, Nicole. We all know that you'll hop into the sack with any man who's got facial hair faster than I can say "Wilford Brimley", but there's no need to embarrass the supporting actor.

And you, Ryan, will flirt with former HEAD OF THE CLASS cast members quicker than I can say, "Arvid Engen."

Hey, at least I didn't know who Simone was before I started charming her. You knew exactly who Wilford was when you asked him to stick a spoon in your oatmeal because it was "the right thing to do."

You dress like a Swedish exchange student. Yep, I went there. Don't mess with me and Wilford.

You know how hard things were for me in the Swedish orhpanage, but you went there anyway. You make me so mad I could rip my blonde hair right out. I like color. Not my fault the rest of you want to dress blandly.

Hey, let's talk about this film, since no one else will. In the interest of improving our acting and filmmaking skills, what are your favorite and least favorite parts of Still Standing, etc? I wish we'd gotten more shots of the two characters posing outside, or on crowded subway platforms.

The great thing about the mocumentary style is that I was able to improvise a bunch of stuff and have fun (which is usually easier for me than proper acting, since I can't remember lines, or act). The challenge, though, was that Jenny and I had to hack together a story from that raw footage.

Also, in retrospect, I wish I'd done something more interesting with the Manni-Kenny character. It would have been funnier if he were Swedish, actually ;)

I'd say one of my favorite parts is when Stilly Willy eats the candy cigarette after talking about his wife's aversion to them. Good comic timing.

You might not have liked your Manni-Kenny as much, but he serves as a good antagonist. If you tried to layer some sort of affectation to Kenny(say, making him Swedish), it would've muddled the classic old-versus-young storyline. I thought Kenny was brash and disrespectful of those who came before him, the way a lot of young punks can be. I love the idiocy of a character like that, because they don't seem to realize that one day they'll be on the other end of the spectrum.

And at the very least, Kenny reeked of Boston Art School.
